Wesley Eggebrecht

Wesley Eggebrecht is a freelance Illustrator/Designer based out of northern Michigan.
This is some branding and merchandise work he did for his co-owned clothing line Savant.
What drew me to this work was two bits of type design, the logo 'SW' and the 'Together' in the first t shirt graphic.

Firstly the logo, this is what started my idea of having an american sport / college style to my proposed record label logo, something like the savant logo with having the initials NDNR together, twisting under and over like. Finding it quite difficult to work with the letters and how to lay them out together.

Then the illustration for the word, 'together' another good example of highlights making it feel more rounded, 3D'ish.

Here is a selection of logos designed by Eggebrecht, some are stronger than others but reminds me that logos need to work as one colour, black on white or vice versa.

Roel Van Eekelen

aka Mr.Maze, Dutch designer.
Really loving a lot of work coming from this guy, these are just a few logo designs from the man. Big fan of his hand drawn style typography.

My favourite being 'The hookup' strong, easy to read, fun, fits in with my ideas to involve the American sports / college theme thing.

Logo ideas for Record label

Some general images and bits of design that have given me inspiration and some design direction ideas for my logos for the record label.

Mixture of American sport / high school / college like typography
Having something like this as the logo for NDNR could work really well.
Keeping both a sense of professionalism and fun in the design.

Hopefully my upcoming designs and drawings will show how these have inspired me.

Some Argentinian Lad

Found this on Behance.net, can't remember the guys name but i do recall he was from Argentina. Think he's just a graduate but found this bit of design and thought it was very relevant to my board designs.

I've been having some issues with effectively creating shadow and highlights on my illustrations. This is a example of when its done fairly well. All the highlights on the top right of each letter, usually bending in correlation with the letter, then having very subtle shadows on the left side of each letter.
Need to try adding the very subtle shadows to my designs as I didn't put any on my choco & win design for some reason.

Effektive Design

Just another thing on the studio.
The way they showcase their work and projects on the website is really interesting.
They show in a brief like layout, very clever and clearly shows what the project is about and who it is for.
Nabbing this for my website, cheers.

Effektive Design

Some more branding & identity work from Effektive.
This time for a social marketing agency, again based in Australia.

The logo below, isn't great in my opinion. The type is a bit weak i feel, the speech marks are strong and the concept of the colour matching the person applies well with this part of the logo.

Again the business cards are top draw. Class A.
Big bold bright colours with the customised logo on the front.

Excellent example of working with colour.

Effektive Design

A design studio based in Glasgow, specialist in branding and identity.
This project was for a property finance company based in Sydney.
Strong example of their skill and ability within the field of branding and identity.

Standard concept of black & white with a bright colour. Blue chosen here, calm and appealing, approachable. Making the world of finance and the realisation no one has any money look all nice.
Really like the combination of the bright colour with the black gloss finish on the business card, might steal that idea for myself.
Ampersands are wond3rful!

When Clients Attack

All That Glitter Ain't Gold

A personal project from two designers (posts on which to come soon), creating posters to show the negative side of a design process.

Firstly a cheeky logo, exquisite piece of type, all joined together, creating an even body of design. The shading is effective and all, this being something I need to work on within my board artwork.

They two guys came up with a clever way of producing the posters. Instead of making it look 3d and giving it depth. They made the content of the poster, positioned it in a certain way and took photos of it to create the following...

A process to keep in mind perhaps?

Abby Brewster

Branding & Identity / Range

Came across this work from Abby Brewster on some blog, an american graduate this is some work she produced from here degree course.
Branding project for a builders company, J.W. HALL.
Strong aesthetic style, really like thought gone into the stationary, specifically the envelopes, printing on the inside. Not going to forget these in a hurry. Works well as an invoice in terms of business, creates importance and yeah customers will remember it then remember oh yeah need to pay that.

Pale Horse

Pale Horse is the Graphic Design Studio based in Flrodia of Illustrator / Graphic Designer Chris Parks.

Impressive body of work. Range of clients, from big global brands like Nike and Urban Outfitters to smaller private companies. Most work is based on highly detailed and skillful illustrations and often taken too posters, clothing and skate/wake-boards.

An example of hand-drawn type from Parks, showing transformation of hand-drawn to digital, able to see how it changes, becoming bolder and defined. Interesting in relation to my practice for my first brief of taking my drawings to Illustrator and making them a whole bag better.

Here, just a couple more examples of typography based work, strong custom made type. Bit decorative like, none the less shows talent in layout and having an even design.
This really relates to some of my ideas for my Snowbombing brief and general projects where I propose posters. Type based designs / type as image etc

Range One
Awesome example in reference to my board designs. An interesting way of taking a design to the format of a board. Instead of having a series of boards with a set of designs on, have one big fuck off illustration and spread it across a number of boards. Very clever.
Taking this to my own design practice, (Brief One) having one illustration for one board but having the illustration spread over the different sizes available.

Another type design, thought this could work well as a logo. Just taking the two H's here in some composition for example. Made me think of an idea or two for my record label brief, having a decorative / customised type style.

Range Two
Nice contemporary examples of taking designs over a range of formats,
IPhones / Guitar Hero guitar! / Xbox / laptop. Maybe not appropriate ranges for some of the stuff i'm doing at the moment but good show of whats possible etc.

New Brief

Came up with another brief relating to the Snowbombing festival. Another promotional campaign, this time taking advantage of their sponsor, Metro.
The brief being to create a series of cover-wraps for the metro promoting the festival. The concept of this being to use quotes from reviews in the media, ranging from artists and media companies such as MTV.
Here a few examples of what a cover-wrap is...

The Big Snow Festival

This festival rings a bell, but I think today might have been the first I've heard of it.
A Snowbombing like event, boarding by day party by night. Based in the Pyrenees, it lasts a full week, sounds and looks pretty good like!
This is some of the stuff i could find as part of their visual identity...

Logo:
I actually like the logo, bold and bright, in your face. Got some charm to it having a crayon like feel. Appealing and friendly. Therefore an appropriate design for a big social event.

They have a kind of mascot cartoon character, being this lovely yeti man, I quite like the friendly / child like style theyv gone for, for the festival. However i dont think their general visual identity is as strong or vast as snowbombings.

Russell Flanders

Another good looking & interesting project from Flanders / OTB - Outside The Box Design.

"Fresh is a collective of Promoters, Producers, Resident DJs, Vocalists and Musicians who hold club nights specialising in the sounds of Drum ‘n’ Base, Dubstep and Breakbeat. Fresh wanted an identity that reflected the Drum ‘n’ Base genre; something edgy while leaving a memorable first impression."

This body of work is highly relevant to my second brief, create a visual identity for a record label focussed on bass driven music. essentially the same client / target audience.
What I first thought when I saw this was that its kind of similar to an idea I had for my brief Here A simple customisation of a bold typeface - Helvetica is used here i believe.
What I really like about this work is that its not a cliché image of drum'n'bass music which can often be portrayed as a bit 'chavvy' / dark and dirty. This is something I want to have with my work, portray it with good design in-capturing the up-beatness of the genre of music and the passion that lies within it.
But again another fine example of the range. Really like the custom packaging for the CD. Firstly with the CD, printed detail onto that, then the packaging which folds out into a poster. Clever stuff, saving the planet aswell with not using plastic packaging!
Also even though its essentially cut in half you can read the tag-line / message of the company - 'About the music & not the attitude'
