Russell Flanders

Another good looking & interesting project from Flanders / OTB - Outside The Box Design.

"Fresh is a collective of Promoters, Producers, Resident DJs, Vocalists and Musicians who hold club nights specialising in the sounds of Drum ‘n’ Base, Dubstep and Breakbeat. Fresh wanted an identity that reflected the Drum ‘n’ Base genre; something edgy while leaving a memorable first impression."

This body of work is highly relevant to my second brief, create a visual identity for a record label focussed on bass driven music. essentially the same client / target audience.
What I first thought when I saw this was that its kind of similar to an idea I had for my brief Here A simple customisation of a bold typeface - Helvetica is used here i believe.
What I really like about this work is that its not a cliché image of drum'n'bass music which can often be portrayed as a bit 'chavvy' / dark and dirty. This is something I want to have with my work, portray it with good design in-capturing the up-beatness of the genre of music and the passion that lies within it.
But again another fine example of the range. Really like the custom packaging for the CD. Firstly with the CD, printed detail onto that, then the packaging which folds out into a poster. Clever stuff, saving the planet aswell with not using plastic packaging!
Also even though its essentially cut in half you can read the tag-line / message of the company - 'About the music & not the attitude'
